Non-Prog Metal/Thrash

"Discharge may primarily be a punk band, but their influence on the metal scene cannot be underestimated, and thrash metal bands like Celtic Frost, Metallica, Anthrax, Sepultura and a host of first generation Swedish death metal band have all drawn inspiration from Discharge. Moreover, Discharge themselves would eventually gravitate towards thrash metal as they entered into the realm of crossover thrash.

This release is probably more inclined towards the punk side of the crossover continuum than the thrash metal side, but there definitely are many thrash metal elements on this album. Most of the songs evolve around Discharge's trademark d-beats, and the vocals are aggressive and pissed-off sounding and the production rather raw and a bit lo-fi. This means that there is a lot of punk energy on this album, which will certainly appeal to fans of hardcore punk. But most of the riffage, performed with palm-muted fast picking, is very thrashy in nature and sounds like early primitive thrash metal. The guitar solos are also more on the thrash metal side but also scream raw rock 'n' roll in your face (or ears).

This album should appeal to fans of early thrash metal, crossover thrash and crust and hardcore punk alike - it certainly is an explosion of angry, pissed-of and aggressive energy.
